The 3H summer school program is an initiative using Auroville and its outstanding experience in human unity & sustainable living as a platform for the learning and personal growth of students from around the world. The program is based on the 3H approach that nurtures hands (skills), head (competencies) and heart (inner capacities) of all participants. The 3H summer school 2014 served as an experimental educational laboratory, connecting theory and application with core human values such as justice, compassion and dignity around the lead theme of regenerative design, closed loop systems and responsible consumption.
Twenty-two students and young professionals participated in this three-week program held from 21st July to 10th August 2014 at Auroville International Township in Tamil Nadu, India. Participants came from various Indian and foreign colleges and each one brought his or her specific strengths and skills into the workshop, contributing to a great and transformational learning experience, which we hope they will always carry in good memories with them.

Botanical Gardens – The Temple Groves

Botanical Gardens’ eco-teacher Sathiyamurthy visits three sacred groves near the local temples of Puthupet, Periyamudhaliarchavady and Kottakarai to discover the Tropical Dry Evergreen Forest (TDEF) species located in their original and ancient habitat. Bapoune, a volunteer-guest, realizes the importance of saving, preserving and developing these forests and trees and becomes overwhelmed by the temple god’s relation with these trees…. but that’s another very old story!

Growing Smiles in Gujarat

This the account of a one-week oral health camp organized by Auroville Dental Centre. This camp takes place in Gujarat for village children in the tribal area bear Baruch; it is being financed by a large polyester industry of the neighbourhood under the famous corporate social responsibility scheme.
Thanks to the method the Auroville Dental Centre has developed in the surrounding villages of Auroville, 1600 children have been checked up.
The film brings evidence of the efficiency of this approach and how it can bring oral health in rural areas at a very affordable cost. It can be adapted to a very basic set up as those one can have in such areas.
It also shows how one can bring children to participate and educate themselves while avoiding the fear of the dentist.

India’s Disappearing Beaches – A Wake up Call

Karunakaran is an honest police sub-inspector from the village who is attending an accident case in the city. The accident victim is a youth named Santhosh, an employee of a company. The police found Santosh’s mobile phone at the scene and want to inform his relatives, so Karunakaran contacts Santosh’s office manager, friends and his girlfriend – but strangely, none of them knows his family background or where he is from. The dead body has been lying in the mortuary for three days and still nobody has claimed the body for disposal.
The inconvenience of this death and the body of Santhosh prove to be too much for his family and relatives, leaving Karunakaran to deal with the consequences.

Walls and Beyond…A Journey Within

This short film is a story of a man who, while travelling through bustling towns of Jodhpur and Benares, finds himself standing before ageing walls that have old torn posters and layers of peeling paint. These imprints of the passage of time make him aware that he is trapped in layers of history and walled up in his ego.
Plunged into deep disarray, he thus contemplates other walls and undertakes an inward voyage, which, from introspection to awakening, gradually gives him a glimpse of liberation and of enlightenment.
The story is also about the storyteller, Dr Jean-Pierre Muller himself. He is accompanied by a fellow traveller-music composer, Arnab B Chowdhury. Both seekers visualise a rite of passage inspired by the teachings of great spiritual masters, through the movement in the photographs, interplay of colours on the walls and an original music composition to weave it all together.
Our dear friend, Dr Jean-Pierre Muller, left us late August 2015. His ‘joie de vivre’ to explore the world ‘within’ through a photographer’s lens is a testimony of this quote, his favourite, which he lived by:
“If you look mindfully at walls covered with stains, or walls built with multicoloured stones, and if you set your mind’s eye free to see a variety of scenes, you will find (….) an infinity of things with which you can then make a clean, complete composition”
