Auroville Exchange: Two filmmakers. Two perspectives. One goal.

2023, 15 minutes, English

Screening on: Tuesday 23th January, 21:00 – Cinema Paradiso

Trailer: https://youtu.be/lavuzyEl2AM

In 2021, an exchange program was initiated by Auroville, an experimental global township located in Southern India. The two participants for the exchange were Lobsang, an environmentalist and filmmaker from Zanskar Valley, Ladakh in the Himalayas, and Serena Aurora, a documentary filmmaker from Auroville. Through this program, Auroville aims to bring together people from different communities, cultures, and walks of life with Aurovillians. The goal is to acquaint them with the culture of Auroville and find a common ground to work towards and nurture human unity. It serves as a window through which an outsider can glimpse into Auroville and see what it offers the world. For an Aurovillian, it provides an opportunity to live in unique communities and regions, learn, and then enrich their own global community in Auroville. This is the first step, with many more to follow. To realize human unity, one needs to reach out, share experiences, absorb experiences, and grow together.

Turning Waste into Money in the Himalayas

2023, 8 minutes, English

Screening on: Saturday 27th January, 20:41 – Outdoor Venue

Can we look at waste not as waste but as something useful? In this video, we try to explore that path with Rohit Joshi. As the population and tourism grow in the Himalayas, the problem of waste is exploding. Additionally, the number of military personnel has increased manyfold due to troubles at the border. Sustainable solutions for waste management are the need of the hour. This film depicts some solutions found in the Himalayas which can easily be replicated anyplace where there is a culture of use-and-throw rather than repair and reuse. The only way forward is to create value from waste to motivate people to do the right thing by recycling. Making recycling sustainable and profitable, economically and for planet Earth…
