Cultural Day at Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park
2016, United States, Documentary, 30 min, English
This cultural day is held one weekend a year on the Big Island of Hawaii. In ancient times, Hawaiians lived under strict laws. Commoners could not get too close to the chief, nor were they allowed to touch any of his possessions, walk in his footsteps or even let their shadows touch the royal grounds. The penalty for violating a sacred kapu (taboo) was death.
Breaking a kapu was believed to incur the wrath of the gods. Hawaiians often chased down an offender and swiftly put him to death unless he could reach a puuhonua, or place of refuge. There he could be absolved by a kahuna (priest) in a purification ceremony, then return home with his transgression forgiven. Defeated warriors and non-combatants could also find refuge here during times of battle.
Cultural Days are held to share Hawaiian culture with tourists and others. You will see many traditional crafts and practices in the video.

Hukilau
2016, United States, Documentary, 30 min, English
Hawaiian culture may have been strict in some ways but it was also a culture based on caring, sharing and giving, and it was sustainable. Most things were done collectively and the poor, old or sick were looked after. The hukilau was one such community endeavour – a community fishing event where the fishing was done together and the fish were shared with each other. This movie shows a hukilau as well as many other traditional Hawaiian crafts and skills.

Journey to Auroville, India; Episode One
2017, India, Documentary, 80 min, English
This is the first film in an ongoing story of eight Canadian ladies who have been practicing Sri Aurobindo’s yoga. For years, they have cherished a dream to come to Auroville for two weeks. They came for the two Darshans; February 21st and 29th, 2016, and were given four talks on Sri Aurobindo and Mother. Each talk was filmed, so there will be three more episodes. Each film stands on its own without the other three episodes, and in each coming episode we hear of new spiritual gifts and adventures. We see the ladies change, glowing with more and more light, becoming happier, liberated and fulfilled. Episode one gives us our first glimpse into these beautiful souls, and by the end of the first meeting, we fall in love with each of them. We will see more of them later on and learn more about Sri Aurobindo and others’ teachings, because the other three episodes are coming soon.

More Than A Farm – Freixo Do Meio
2015, Portugal, Documentary, 44 min, English and Portugese with English subtitles
Freixo do Meio is a project that became a sustainable reality for many people. It is a big organic farm and organism, integrating with surrounding Montado, a typical ecosystem from Alentejo, Portugal. The presence of human beings here wants to be a peaceful cooperation which welcomes and arouses biodiversity.
In this visual summary, Alfredo, manager of this ecosystem, starts explaining his philosophy which lays the basis for his way of farming. In this open view, a circle of people works with the puzzle of nature, creating a balance which allows production without exploitation of resources (agroecology).
In the video we see people and their various skills: cooperation, eco functionality, managing risks, all with a biodynamic approach. The produce is sold in Alfredo’s farm shop in Lisbon. This creates an honest economy which allows the workers to be paid.
Alternative projects are included: beekeeping, permaculture, medicinal garden, and a horse-riding school. In the end we see how Sorraias horses (indigenous ancient breed) are respected and kept wild in their ecosystem. This video is an example of how Man can act in a sensitive way, contributing to local production and protecting the environment.
